Go PINK Bundles Are Back!

Go PINK Bundles Are Back!

on Oct 19, 2021
To promote breast cancer awareness this October, we're once again going pink with Karina Moore founder of Louie & Lola Yarns in Australia and knitwear designer Tracie Millar! In June of this year, we jointly raised over $10,000 for breast cancer research with our GO PINK Notions Clutch Bundle and fundraiser. The bundles sold out in both of our shops so quickly, that many missed out, so we're bringing them back for one last round!  These "Go Pink" knitter's bundles include a limited edition Rose Notions Clutch embossed with the breast cancer ribbon emblem, "Go Pink" Louie & Lola Sock Yarn Set & Tracie's "Coffee Talk" knitting pattern. They will be available for purchase here on Saturday, October 23rd @12pm EST, while quantities last. Karina will also have some available on the Louie & Lola website as well. SEE IN STORE We will donate $20.00 CAD to the Breast Cancer Research Fund from each sale, while Louie & Lola will be making the same donation to the Australian National Breast Cancer Foundation. Check out our fundraiser pages and help us reach our goal. Thanks to a generous corporate donor, this month all donations to BCRF will be matched 2x, so our impact will be even more significant! On the Fly with Junk Yarn

On the Fly with Junk Yarn

on Oct 06, 2021
We're always on the lookout for like-minded fellow makers in the fiber arts community with whom to join forces for a good cause. We've been following Kemper Wray, creator extraordinaire of Junk Yarn and couldn't resist her vibrant unique style. Together, we've created this fun and bright "On the Fly" bundle, in support of The Coalition to Stop Violence Against Native Women. The kit features a limited edition sky blue On the Go notions wallet, complete with new matching navy mini scissors and blue beaded ring stitch markers. The perfect companion to bring 'on the fly' with you on your travels (now that there are travels once more!) Kemper has dyed up this vibrant special colourway, called Pegasus, with a coordinating blue mini, to complete this bright and fun sock set that we absolutely love! We've knit up a sample in Lisa K Ross' Uphill Downhill sock pattern, which turned out stunning with Kemper's colours! Not only do we love the resulting sock, but we had so much fun knitting this pattern - highly recommend! The On the Fly bundles are $117.00 CAD and go on sale in both Thread & Maple and Junk Yarn shops, Saturday October 9th at: 12pm EDT 11am CDT 10am MDT 9am PDT   10% from each bundle sale will go to The Coalition to Stop Violence Against Native Women a non-profit that tackles the serious issue of violence against Native women and children, through policy advocacy, youth groups, community support and education resources.   We are shocked and saddened reading the numerous reports of the tragic stories about missing Indigenous women and girls in Canada. It is frightening to know that thousands of Native women and children have disappeared or been killed across a span of decades, without any justice. We stand behind organizations, such as CSVANW, whose mission it is prevention and intervention of violence against Native women. We hope to raise funds and awareness of these issues at home here in Canada, as well as abroad. We hope you enjoy our creation and thank you for your support! Sincerely, - Sam & Olga
Fleurs des Champs with Julie Asselin

Fleurs des Champs with Julie Asselin

on Sep 01, 2021
We're honoured to present a very special collaboration with two very talented fiber artists, Julie Asselin and Ambah O'Brien! We've been longtime fans of Julie, a fellow Canadian maker, whose beautiful colourways expertly mirror those found in nature. When we approached her with the idea of a collab to debut our new project pochette, she immediately started brainstorming ways to incorporate elements of nature into the design. We took inspiration from Julie's love of wildflowers to create this limited edition version of our new project pochette in a gorgeous deep purple, with a delicate flowery inner lining. With fall just around the corner, we thought it would be the perfect time for a shawl, so we immediately thought of Ambah O'Brien, whose creativity knows no bounds when it comes to designing unique stunning shawls. Her Lilli Pilli design immediately stood out. Inspired by a purple flowering plant "Lilly Pilly", this shawl combines classic stripes with delicate lace pattern for a relaxed yet elegant look. Julie has hand-dyed a stunning palette of exquisitely soft Leizu fingering yarn, featuring Lavande, Biscotti and Sherwood colourways. Together with Ambah's Lilli Pilli shawl pattern and the new T&M project pochette, this beautiful "Fleurs des Champs" kit will be available for sale in both T&M and Julie Asselin shops, priced at $240.00 CAD, this Saturday, September 4th @3pm EDT. **These are still available in Julie's shop here** We will be donating $20.00 CAD from the sale of each bundle to Women for Afghan Women, a non-profit providing support services to women, children and families in Afghanistan. Thank you for enabling us to give back to those in need during these very challenging times. Best wishes from our families to yours! - Sam & Olga

Collab for a Cause with Lola Bean Yarn Co

Collab for a Cause with Lola Bean Yarn Co

on Aug 13, 2021
The fibre arts community is brimming with talented awesome people and Adella Colvin is someone whom we've looked up to from day one. Founder of Lola Bean Yarn Co., she dyes up some of the coolest, spot-on colourways time and time again. We couldn't be more excited to partner with LBYC to bring you this very special limited edition Green Bean Go bundle! We've dressed our On the Go in a beautiful green and co-branded it with her iconic and ridiculously adorable Lola Bean logo. Adella has dyed up an exclusive Bean Sprout sock set, with a full skein called "Thread & Maple" and a mini in one of her popular favourites "Gritty." We've knit up a sample in Denise Desantos' Soxploration sock pattern. If you're new to sock knitting, Denise has you covered! She's got a way of explaining socks like no one else. Check out her No Fear Sock Knitting class on Youtube, you'll see what we mean! The Green Bean Go bundles are $110.00 CAD and go on sale in both Thread & Maple and LBYC shops, Saturday August 14th at: 3pm EDT 2pm CDT 1pm MDT 12pm PDT   We will have a link to them from our homepage at go time (pun fully intended!) $12.50CAD/$10USD from each bundle sale will go to The Hunger Project, a non-profit that tackles the devastating issue of world hunger, through empowering women in impoverished communities. This holistic and thoughtful approach really hit home, when we read about the statistics of hunger and poverty worldwide. A shocking 690 million people in the world are chronically undernourished - imagine, when juxtaposed with all the waste and excess we see in developed nations! 60% are women. 2/3 of the world's illiterate population is female and most of the school age children not in school are girls. Meanwhile, women bear most of the responsibility of providing the basic needs of their families, yet are denied access to critically important resources, information and freedoms. The majority of women in developing countries lack economic power, resulting in a higher rate of girls kept out of school, minimal access to basic health care, increased HIV/AIDS prevalence and higher maternal mortality rates. The Hunger Project works at the local community level, to provide women with much-needed resources, education and access to micro-financing to really make a sustainable impact for women and their families. Studies show that when women are supported and empowered, all of society benefits. Their families are healthier, more children go to school, agricultural productivity improves and incomes increase. In short, communities become more resilient. Unlike famines that receive emergency-aid, chronic hunger is a silent, invisible, day-after-day condition. We're deeply saddened when we read about the sheer scale and devastating effects of hunger and poverty in the world. But we're also hopeful, that there are organizations such as The Hunger Project, that tirelessly work to develop a really thoughtful and effective approach to put a sustainable end to world hunger. We feel very fortunate to have been born in a country where women are afforded the rights and opportunities to education, work and personal freedoms. We will strive to reach out and support those who are less fortunate, by connecting and sharing collaborations such as this. We hope you love our little Green Bean Go bundle as much as we love creating it! SEE IN STORE
