Contributing to Black Mamas Matter this Feb
•Posted on February 11 2021

As some of you may already know, all 3 of us at Thread & Maple are mamas. I (Olga) have a toddler, Sasha has two little ones and Sam is expecting her baby boy in just a few weeks. We are all conscious of how fortunate we are to receive high quality care, during the prenatal and child-rearing phases of our journeys. Unfortunately, this is not the case for a lot of women, particularly women of colour.
Did you know that Black women are three to four times more likely to experience a pregnancy-related death than white women? These deaths are preventable, and as mothers, we can't imagine going into pregnancy and child birth with such added worries and fears. We definitely want to be a part of the movement to advance Black Maternal Health, Rights and Justice.
February is Black History Month. It is a time for honouring the major contributions that Black people have made, and continue to make, across all sectors of society. So we thought it's a perfect time to honour Black Mamas Matter, who do such incredible work to address the issues that impact maternal health disparities and inequalities faced by Black women in America.

From Feb 11 to Mar 11, we will be donating $5.00 CAD from the sale of every Cork Project Bag, Cork Zip Backpack and On the Go to Black Mamas Matter. They provide technical assistance, training, and capacity building for grassroots organizations, maternity care service providers and the public health industry. |
We so much appreciate all our customers, who enable us to give back to causes such as this, by choosing our products and supporting our small business!
Stay safe and be well!
❤️
