Duplicate Stitch for Weaving in Ends

Typically you will see Duplicate Stitch being used on the Stockinette side of a fabric to "embroider" on your knitting. If you utilize the Duplicate Stitch technique on the wrong side of your work, it can be a great way to weave in your ends that is secure and won't show through to the right side.

The essential concept of Duplicate Stitch is that you are duplicating the exact path of your stitches that are already there.

Step 1: Find the frown stitch

Find a stitch that is curved downwards (a frown) and feed your darning needle through it from the bottom to the top.

Step 1

Step 2: Find the smile stitch above

Find the stitch in the row above and slightly to the right that is curved upwards (a smile) and feed your darning needle through it from bottom to the top.

Step 2

Step 3: Move counterclockwise down through next smile

Moving counterclockwise, feed your darning needle down through the next smile on the same row...

Step 3

Step 4: Weave down and to the right

And then continue down and slightly to the right through the first frown stitch you started with. Repeat these steps until you have sufficiently woven in your end.
