How To Organize Fixed Circular Needles

How To Organize Fixed Circular Needles

Fixed circulars can be a bit unruly—but with the right system, they’re easy to tame. In this guide, we’ll show you how to store them neatly using the Thread & Maple Fixed Circular Needle Page.

Meet the Fixed Circular Needle Page

This page is designed to hold up to 12 fixed circular needles—three pockets on each side, with room for two needles per pocket. It fits perfectly into your Needle Binder, or can be folded up and snapped closed as a standalone case for travel.

Sort By Size

There’s no right or wrong way to organize your needles, but sorting them by size is a popular approach. Our handy Needle Size Markers clip onto each pocket, making it easy to spot the size you need at a glance.

Needles Up or Down?

Some knitters prefer their needles pointing down, others up—it’s totally personal. If you’re storing a mix of wood and metal tips, pointing them up can make it easier to see what’s what without digging around.

A Simple Tidy Trick

To keep cords from getting tangled, try this technique:

  • Hold one needle in your palm and loosely wrap the cord around your fingers.
  • Take the same needle and thread it through the loop you’ve just made, front to back.
  • Take the second needle and do the same in reverse—back to front.
  • Slip the coiled pair into the pocket. Done!

For shorter cords like 16" circulars, a single twist is usually enough to keep them tidy.

Need More Space?

If you have more than 12 fixed circulars but not quite enough to justify a second page, you can tuck a few extras into the left-hand panel of your binder shell. It holds up to four additional cords.
